A look back...Lauren

Since I've not been very good lately about catching some good photos or publishing any good new video clips I thought tonight I'd take the opportunity to do a brief look back.

This video was taken in September 2007, Lauren was about 4 1/2 months old at the time.

We used to try and try to get her to talk, but she never did much talking or laughing for that matter. Brayton must have spoiled us with his belly laugh. We really had to work hard to get that same laugh out of Lauren. This clip was one of five or so originals. Colette and I worked for about 20 minutes to get Lauen to talk and laugh.

When she did start to talk, as the clip will attest, I think it was because she was tired of sitting in that green bumbo chair.

I also didn't realize we were holding the camera sideways, I think that's something Colette does...Still a great clip. Enjoy.

Starting to really talk, talk, talk...

Lauren has really been talking alot lately. She has started putting sentences together rather than just the one word type of communication you get when they start to talk.

Yesterday, when the kids took their naps, Colette took the van to get it washed and the inside vacuumed out. While she was gone, Lauren woke up from her nap and I went and got her. We sat in my chair and watched a little football while eating a few goldfish crackers.

At one point, Lauren looked up at me and said "Where's Mommy?" I said "Mommy will be home soon." She looked at me and said, "I want Mommy." She actually said this three different times, "Where's Mommy?" and then after my explanation, she'd say "I want Mommy."

The other phrase she's been saying alot lately is "Hi Baby!" I always say that to her when I come home from work or get her up from a nap. She only recently has started saying it, to me, to other children. I'm not certain that she understands that she is the baby, but it's very cute when she does say it.

Stand and speak

In the past couple of days, Lauren's really begun to take off in terms of being able to stand and speaking with intent.

Tonight prior to bed she was in Brayton's room playing with B's toys. She stood up and took her first steps (at least that I have seen). Colette has seen her do this in the past couple days, but tonight Lauren stood up and walked from the play table past Brayton's bookshelf and over to Brayton's blue chair. All assisted of course by the objects she could hold on to, nevertheless she made it about six steps. It was very special for me to get to see this, and it's been wonderful watching my little girl grow.

Lauren has also been talking more and more. Of course, as I've written before, her favorite word is "ball." But, recently she's been very fond of "puppy". Every time we see a dog, she says "puppy" or "pup." She says "bye" to me every day when I leave for work. She also loves "Bob" our fish. She is really getting her "B's" down well.

Here's a quick little video of Lauren standing up playing and talking a little bit. Watch her look around for the "puppy" when Colette talks about a puppy. Date of this video is July 1st, 2008.
